Architecture is inhabited sculpture.

It really does not matter which part of the world you are, if there are people, communities, and evolving histories, you will always come across great buildings which simply sing to your soul. These buildings remain timeless as they continue to articulate the history of a time, place and a people.

It is no different in the town of Ile-Ife (Osun State Nigeria). An ancient town with significant historical relevance to the Yoruba people, Ile-Ife has the most inspiring mix of eclectic architecture. These buildings have sat in exactly the same spot for at least a couple of generations. Each one is unique. Each one makes us think about the surroundings in a different way.  Some of these buildings are poetic but all of them continue to be practical even today. This is the legacy of a great building.

As a child growing up in Ile-Ife, the buildings were a source of constant fascination. These buildings have sat in exactly the same spot for at least a couple of generations. Each one is unique. Each one makes me  think about the history of this town in a different way.  Some of these buildings are poetic and inspiring but all of them continue to be practical even today. This is the legacy of a great building.
